The Fredericksburg Bible Institute and Seminary was the vision of the late Dr. G. Albert Brown who 39 years ago sought to start a Bible school which would educate Christians in the Bible. His conviction that most Christians fail to study God’s Word or have a limited knowledge of it were the beginnings of what is now a school designed for lay person who for one reason or another wants to know more about the Bible, or for persons who feel the call of God to dedicate their lives to full time Christian service. Many of our first students were persons who could not leave their homes or work to go to a formal Bible college or Seminary, yet knew they needed a greater knowledge of God’s Word to share it with others. A large number accepted the call of the Holy Spirit to pastor churches in the surrounding area.
Today this vision continues under the auspices of the Fredericksburg Christian Schools with Dr. Gary Foss as our new president. We still seek to help persons to learn how to study again in an adult setting that they may follow God’s calling for their lives. |
The late George Albert Brown, Jr. was born May 15, 1929, about three miles south of Warsaw, Virginia. He graduated from Warsaw High School in 1946, and was employed in secular work for thirteen years. On October 7, 1956, he married the former Gladys Wilkinson of Clarksville, Virginia. He lived in the same area most of his life until he answered the call of God to preach the gospel. He then moved to North Carolina to prepare himself for the ministry.
Dr. Brown preached as a layman for many years prior to his full time surrender to the call of ministry. His theological training was in the Fruitland Baptist Institute, graduating in the spring of 1963 with a major in Theology. He continued his studies at the Luther Rice Seminary in Jacksonville, Florida, graduating with Bachelor of Theology, Doctor of Theology, and Master of Religious Education degrees. He was in the full time pastorate for forty years, and was the Founder and President of the Fredericksburg Bible Institute and Seminary until January 31, 2008, when the Lord called him home. |
